Behind the Curtain at Confex 2019

By December 10, 2018Features

International Confex, the UK’s leading tradeshow for event professionals returns to Olympia London from 26th to 27th February to celebrate its 35th anniversary with a Wizard of Oz theme.

Last year, over 5,000 event professionals braved the snow during Britain’s worst spell of weather in 30 years to do business with 223 exhibitors at International Confex. Regardless of the weather, this year promises a scorching line-up of exhibitors and speakers as the UK’s biggest events exhibition is once again set to bring together the best in the business, linking venues, locations and suppliers with planners, associations and agencies.

UK media and publishing company MashMedia acquired International Confex in 2013 and the exhibition is the biggest event offering in the group’s portfolio, which boasts The Event Production Show, The Festival and Outdoor Events Show and The PA Show.

As the events landscape has changed Confex has changed with it. From its creation 35 years ago, it has evolved from a pure venue finding forum to an immersive showcase covering ground-breaking technology, team building activities, destinations and creative touches, guaranteeing the largest single gathering of UK event organisers in one room.

This year’s exhibitor list features a raft of prominent names representing the north include Marketing Liverpool, York Conferences and Newcastle Gateshead, not to mention the team here at H&E North on stand A16C!

The main stage at Confex is renowned for hosting cutting-edge live debates, keynotes and discussions educating and inspiring visitors on what the future of events holds and how to successfully tackle the key challenges of the industry. This year, the programme will focus on the three pillars of sustainability which should be fundamental to every event planner’s thinking: people, planet, profit.

Among a host of corporates and agencies discussing topics such as CSR, accessibility and sustainable event catering, Darren Styles OBE, publisher and owner of Attitude magazine, will present a session with Stephen Morton Prior of LGBTQ+ event agency Clearwater Events on the topic of diversity and inclusion entitled The Sustainable Moral Compass. Morton Prior together with Styles, who was recently awarded his OBE and is an ambassador for Downing Street’s GREAT campaign, will be discussing how everything from the suppliers you deploy, to the destinations you work with impact the safety and inclusion of your events. This is billed as a must-attend for event planners to understand why consideration for LGBTQ+ delegate needs is not only a moral mandate but sound commercial strategy.

Since its launch in 2016, EvenTech has proved a hugely popular programme, showcasing the latest technological trends, with exhibitors offering live demonstrations of their practical application for events of all types. Some of the emerging technology you can expect to experience includes augmented and virtual reality, beacons and 21st century twists on traditional audio-visual set-ups. Whether you’re donning your VR headset or participating in gamification experiences, you will be able to play with the latest innovations that hold the potential to make events more immersive than ever.

International Confex is also once again co-located with the Event Production Show and The PA Show. The PA Show held in the Grand Hall Gallery, is the UK’s largest event dedicated to PAs, EAs, VAs and Office Managers. Formerly known as Office*, the annual event attracts thousands of visitors from across the UK with networking sessions and masterclasses covering a raft of personal development opportunities.

The Event Production Show, which focuses on live events and event infrastructure, will be housed in the National Hall with notable exhibitors including the Event Hire Association, NEC Group and Yorkshire Event Centre. The show will feature its usual high calibre panels and educational programme alongside the launch of its new dedicated Brand Experience Theatre presenting case studies and content from corporate experiential companies as well as a dedicated stream for local authority event planners.

In addition, 2019 sees the new addition of luxury B2B gifting fair, Omyague in the Olympia Grand gallery. Omyague offers businesses the opportunity to purchase high-end corporate gifts for meetings, conferences, team building events and incentive and loyalty programmes. Leading brands, including Kiehl’s, Longchamp, Swarovski and Villeroy & Boch will showcase their unique corporate gifting collections, giving attendees the chance to discover gift ideas at prices they would not be able to secure elsewhere.

This year, the men and women behind the curtain at International Confex have planned a unique Wizard of Oz themed journey for attendees. As you follow the yellow brick road through the exhibition, International Confex passport in hand, you will have the opportunity to gather stamps at key destinations to qualify for incentives and prizes.

With so much on offer from the UK’s biggest free-to-attend industry tradeshow, whatever your role in the world of events, there’s no place like International Confex to get you inspired for the road ahead.
