International Convention Centre Wales (ICC) – the state-of-the-art £84 million meetings venue situated in Newport, south Wales – has opened its doors to UK and international conferences, meetings and events.
ICC Wales’ inaugural event was the Association of Stoma Care Nurses‘ (ASCN) three-day UK Annual Conference 2019. Other events at the new venue included an Experience with Arnold Schwarzenegger, and a gala dinner for more than 1,200 people. ICC Wales also hosted a BBC Wales Live Debate and welcomed members of government, industry and academia for the prestigious 2019 UK Space Conference.
Ian Edwards, Chief Executive at ICC Wales, said:
“I am hugely proud of the whole team who have worked tirelessly but always with a smile over the past two years to bring this incredible venue to fruition. We would also like to extend our thanks to the Welsh government and our partners across Wales, without whom this project would not have been possible. This, of course, is just the beginning, and we look forward to continuing to work together to welcome the meetings and events community to Wales and our fantastic new convention centre.”
Heather Lishman, Association Director of ABPCO, added:
“I’m absolutely thrilled that ICC Wales has now opened and that it was a UK Association that was first through the doors… Congratulations to everyone involved and I can’t wait to see the benefits not just for Wales but for the whole of the United Kingdom.”
Kerrin MacPhie, Head of Business Events at VisitBritain said:
“The ICC Wales is a truly world-class venue and is an excellent addition to the extensive portfolio of events spaces in the UK…this outstanding new venue will help to ensure that the UK remains a competitive destination in the global business events marketplace.”
Located within the grounds of the Celtic Manor Resort just two minutes from the M4, the 26,000 sqm ICC Wales can accommodate more than 5,000 delegates at a time and includes a 4,000 sqm pillar-free main hall, a 1,500 seated auditorium, 12 flexible meeting rooms, a double-height glass atrium and a 2,500 sqm outdoor plaza for outside events and team building.
