Conference and events industry worth £18.8 billion E-mail

ImageThe overall value of the conference and corporate events industry is estimated to be worth £18.8 billion, according to a recent report by Eventia and TEAM Tourism Consulting. The 2010 UK Events Market Trends Survey provides an estimate of the overall value of the industry, and includes spend at venues by delegates and organisers.

Other findings include figures that showed an estimated 94 million people attended events in 2009

Southport conferences gains aim accreditation E-mail

ImageThe Southport Conferences portfolio of venues has become fully accredited by the Meeting Industry Association’s conference and meetings industry standard, AIM. Southport Conferences and the resort’s associated venues, including the Vincent Hotel, Southport Theatre and Convention Centre and Scarisbrick Hotel, have each been awarded an AIM accreditation.

Manchester Central celebrates award win E-mail

ImageManchester Central Convention Complex was named UK Venue of the Year at the Association of Event Organisers (AEO) Awards. Chief Executive Lesley Tomlinson commented: “We are absolutely delighted to receive this award. The results mean we can attract a wider range of conferences, seminars, exhibitions and symposia to Manchester.” The win comes after a £30 million investment to redevelop facilities.
 
Leeds University opening E-mail

Image The new hall of residence at Leeds University – which will host delegates during the summer months for conferences and meetings at the location – has been completed. Leeds University has a range of conference facilities. The new building has 460 en-suite bedrooms and a 24 hour reception service, and is situated on campus close to the conferencing venues. The facility is taking bookings for July 2011.
 
ACC Liverpool recruits new marketing chief E-mail

ImageThe Arena and Convention Centre Liverpool (ACC Liverpool) has appointed Michelle Kemp to the position of Head of Marketing. She has joined the venue from Marks & Spencer, where she was the London-based regional marketing and brands events manager.

She said: “My aim is to further build the reputation of ACC Liverpool into not only a world-class venue, but also an integral part of the local community and an internationally recognisable brand that represents quality, innovation and prestige.”
