Five tips for a different kind of Christmas Event

HENHEN—2 July 20210

With a lot of uncertainty still around, you may be thinking about Christmas now, but how do you plan when we don’t know what the Covid-19 situation will be and whether consumers will be confident enough to venture out and celebrate, or whether your Christmas party will need to be adapted and what that might look like. It’s an ever-changing landscape and one that could make or break this year’s festive season.

So, where do you start? Here are five tips for planning for every eventuality.

1. Review your customer base and target market. Reach out to those clients who haven’t used your services during the pandemic through a targeted series of mailshots, and attract new clients, perhaps by changing your offer in some way or offering promotions and deals through a focused social media campaign.

2. Promote your brand alongside a message of safety, clearly outlining what you are doing to mitigate the risk to consumers. You may even consider getting in some branded PPE merchandise specifically for Christmas. If you are planning your staff Christmas party, you could also purchase branded gifts as a way of rewarding them for their efforts during what has been a very difficult time for the industry.

3. Maximise your use of technology. QR codes and ordering apps can go a long way to reassure consumers about safety, so promote your seamless Christmas booking experience to reassure your client base that they are in safe hands.

4. Get creative with your venue. Outdoor heaters and pods for safe social and food packs are just some of the ways in which you could adapt your event to allow people to mix in the safest way possible.

5. Plan contingencies. If the Christmas market is going to be limited due to restrictions, can you take Christmas out to your consumers, perhaps through hampers and virtual events? If you are planning one Christmas Party, could it be broken down into a series of smaller events to reduce capacity? Source suppliers, event space and staff now with the ability to adapt and change your plans at the last minute.
